Wargame Analyst Analyst | Columbus | Full Time

About The Position

Aimpoint Research® leverages military-style wargaming techniques to disrupt our clients' daily thinking patterns and explore complex issues across a wide range of topics within the agri-food value chain. As a Wargame Analyst you will work within a multi-functional team to design, develop, execute, and report on wargames which include, but are not limited to, table-top exercises, manual simulations, and other serious games normally executed in-person. Aimpoint Wargames may be stand-alone events or embedded within a larger portfolio of client-focused research efforts.

This position is in Columbus, Ohio; relocation assistance is available for the right candidate.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, execute, and report on wargames
  • Identify client needs while defining a wargame's problem, purpose, and objectives
  • Conduct background research on the client's organization, industry, competitors, customers, and stakeholders
  • Work with other wargame team members to create appropriate intelligence products that inform the wargame design
  • Assist your project leader and/or Fusion Leader with identifying the proper interactive environment to achieve the desired wargame outcomes
  • Recognize and apply hobby gaming, board gaming, and military wargaming techniques and mechanics in novel and easily communicated ways to clients and wargame participants
  • Create written draft scenarios, game instructions, presentations, and reports
  • Develop and implement scoring methods which encourage player interactions and can quickly determine a wargame winner
  • Assist in developing the wargame analysis plan which describes the information to be captured, the methods to be used, and the post-wargame assessment
  • Participate in, and potentially lead, wargame playtests, play-throughs, and rehearsals
  • Write, deploy, and analyze simple in-wargame and post-wargame surveys
  • Travel to client designated locations to conduct wargames and other serious games
  • Occasionally produce industry specific articles related to previous or current wargaming efforts for inclusion in client communications


  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with experience drafting reports, developing presentations, and briefing senior leaders
  • Desire to develop personally and professionally by constantly seeking new insights, skills, educational opportunities, and training
  • Must have meticulous attention to detail and the ability to work independently to generate high-quality, stand-alone work
  • Outstanding interpersonal and client management skills
  • Naturally curious and inquisitive
  • Strong research skills and the ability to contextualize information
  • Experience required (at least one of the below):
    • 1-3 years practical experience developing analytical wargames within the Department of Defense or a widely recognized defense contractor or think tank
    • Successfully completed a college-level wargaming design course
    • Successfully completed an industry standard wargaming or gamification certification at the Journeyman level or higher


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience within the agricultural industry preferred but not required
